Prof. Amir Kolben
Founder and Artistic Director of Kolben Dance
Prof. Amir Kolben is the founder, artistic director, and choreographer of Kolben Dance Company, leading the company since its inception. A recipient of the 2024 Arik Einstein Prize, his works have been commissioned by theaters and festivals worldwide, achieving great success. Kolben danced for many years with Batsheva Dance Company, as well as with The Israel Ballet, The Freiburg Opera Ballet in Germany, and various companies in the United States.
In 1996, Kolben founded the Kombina Dance Company, which evolved into Kolben Dance in 2006. He is a professor at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, where he also served as Dean of the Dance Faculty from 2015 to 2020.
Kolben was a co-founder of Tamar Dance Company in Ramla, a pioneering company in the Israeli dance scene as the country's first fringe dance ensemble. Between 1987 and 1992, he also co-founded and served as the artistic director of Tamar Jerusalem Dance Company.
His academic background, combined with his artistic talent, allows him to infuse his work with deep analytical and intellectual dimensions, while maintaining a powerful and emotionally stirring artistic experience. With nearly four decades of contributions to contemporary dance, Kolben is recognized as one of Israel’s most esteemed and influential choreographers.
